Dehydration In Child Under Two
[Dehydration – in a child under two years of age.]
Hi I am concerned about a 20 month old child who had diarrhea for 3 days with otitis media, now will not drink has leg cramps and is generally crying and has no tears with decreased UA output. Carol H.
Ms H… I know you understand that comments on the blog aren’t for urgent illnesses; but, still, I can’t help from being concerned and hope that by now your child has seen a pediatrician for potential dehydration and electrolyte imbalance and is feeling better. Dehydration is a serious problem in a child under two. The very symptoms that you describe are those that we watch for as signs of dehydration and the need for medical intervention. Muscle cramps can also be a sign of electrolyte imbalance.
